When we buy push and pull along toys for our children rarely do we take time to read the manufacturers instructions on how to effectively use the toys. In fact we do not even take time to show our children how to use them. We just buy and give it to them and let them learn how to use the push and pull along toys on their own.
When our children become active and curious to know about their surroundings, the best toy for them is the push and pull along toys. These toys may include items attached to a rigid handle such as a walking trolley with blocks or even a toy stroller.
When using the push and pull along toys children are exposed to some dangers including strangulation. The kids may get strangled if they become tangled in cords or strings that are either long or they form a loop or a noose. The kids may also suffer from cuts and wounds from the sharp ends or exposed nails on the handles. Parents, teachers and other caretakers should make sure that the push and pull along toys have no long cords that can strangle a kid. They also need to make sure that the toys do not have sharp edges, exposed nails or thin cords that can easily cause injuries.
In summary the following should be considered when using push and pull toys: Pull strings should be shorter than 22cm for children aged 18months and below. Any strings attached to the toy should be at least 1.5mm thick to avoid dangers of cuts on children.
The push and pull toys should have solid handles and must not come off easily. They must also have protective covers so that ends can’t cut the infants easily. Last but not least make sure that axles are well attached to the toy and the wheels firmly attached to the axles.
